Is Fermob Green?

From Design to manufacture, Fermob remains committed to nature…

Caring for, protecting and improving nature, by creating furniture that shows it off to its best advantage is something that has always come naturally at Fermob, almost as if it were written in the genes of its products and its company values. Indeed, nature and the environment is something think about every day at Fermob.

Metal: For its furniture, Fermob has chosen to use metal, the "ideas material", as Gustave Eiffel called it. The metals used are top-grade steel or aluminum. Both are materials that are recycled all over the world due to an easy and well-managed recycling process. The sorting and recycling of metal in refuse centers was the first recycling circuit to function effectively throughout the world. Consequently, Fermob can guarantee that its furniture is not only recyclable, but – more importantly – actually recycled.

Outdoor Technical Fabrics (OTFs): OTF is a PVC-coated polyester. Fermob’s suppliers are among the most demanding in terms of sustainable development. For example, Fermob’s leading OTF supplier is committed to a unique patented recycling process, Texyloop®, which can recycle 100% of components. Off cuts of OTF used for certain chairs in the manufacturing process are collected for recycling.

Fermob furniture undergoes several stages of rust proofing followed by two paint stages: a Fermob-exclusive process in one of the most efficient plants in Europe. Two treatments are used:

  • a High Protection Index 13 treatment in 13 stages OR
  • a Very High Protection Index 22, or cataphoresis for use in very humid or saline climates.

Paint: The paint is a DuPont® powder, 100% polyester, anti-UV, deposited electrostatically on the furniture for optimal coverage, then baked at 193°, just like in the car industry. Ecological paint protects both the environment and your health: the powder paints used by Fermob (DuPont®, 100% polyester powder) contain no solvents. They are 100% recyclable and are recycled in our zero-waste installation

Wood: Used only for our “Bistro Natural” seats, comes exclusively from sustainable, managed, PEFC-certified European forests.

Packaging: All packaging is made from recycled cardboard, and the tools and materials we provide for window displays are all developed using recyclable materials.

All other waste is sorted and recycled. Fermob was also the first furniture company to sign the VARAPE agreement for special waste recycling, collection and disposal. As a result of this inherent respect for the environment, Fermob is ISO 14001 accredited.
